The Evolution of Sauna and Cold Plunge

From Ancient Traditions to Modern Wellness. The practice of alternating between hot and cold therapies—specifically the sauna and cold plunge has roots that stretch back thousands of years. Both have evolved from cultural rituals into contemporary wellness practices that are valued for their physical and mental health benefits. But how did these ancient traditions come to be, and why have they endured through centuries?

Wellness Culture

While the sauna's rise was heavily influenced by Nordic traditions, the cold plunge—alternating between heat and cold was a complementary ritual practiced in many cultures. The ancient Greeks, for example, developed the Greek hypocaust system, which provided heating for public baths, and used cold water baths for rejuvenation. The Romans, with their love for public baths, would similarly alternate between hot and cold areas to stimulate circulation and improve overall health.

Frequently Asked Question

Float Image
WHAT IS INFRARED HEAT ?

Infrared is a light wave of electromagnetic spectrum, that is invisible to the human eye. Infrared saunas heat the body directly, allowing for deeper penetration and more intense sweat at lower temperatures.

WHAT TO WEAR IN INFRARED SAUNA ?

For the best experience, wear breathable clothing like cotton shirt and shorts.

It's not recommended to wear synthetic fabric or tight clothing that may prevent proper sweating.

HOW MUCH WATER SHOULD I DRINK TO HYDRATE EFFECTIVELY ?

It is recommended to have a water bottle readily available. Drink 1-2 cups before entering the sauna to prepare your body for the heat.

Drink during your session as needed and after your session plenty of water to replenish fluids lost through sweating.

Adding electrolytes is a plus.

Avoid alcohol and caffeine as they contribute to dehydration.
